Since 1886, CedarSafe has concentrated on making the finest products from 100% Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar. All of our products are manufactured at our U.S. facility in Gainesville, Missouri where we employ sustainable processes that have minimal impact on the environment. Not only are our Cedar trees sourced domestically and harvested from the wild, but we also strive to eliminate waste and fully utilize our sole resource.
To do this, we use the entire tree to make our Hanger Planks, Cedar Blocks, Sachet Bags, Shelf Liners, Planking, as well as pure Cedar Oil. Insects repelled by cedar
Moths
Appearance: About 1/2", pale golden or buff-colored. Larvae are creamy white and up to 1/2" long.
Habitat: Dark, undisturbed areas of the home such as closets, attics, and basements.
Diet: Wool clothing, carpets, rugs, furs, upholstered furniture, synthetic and cotton blends containing wool, cotton, silk and dirty fabric stained from food, sweat, etc.
Signs of Infestation: Irregular holes in clothing. Some larvae will leave behind webs and cocoons.
Silverfish
Appearance: Silver/gray in color, teardrop shaped bodies about 1/2 - 1 inch in length, two antennas in the front of their body and three in the rear.
Habitat: Prefer areas of high humidity and can often be found in dark, damp areas of the home, such as basements, attics, bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
Diet: Carbohydrates such as fabrics (cotton, silk, linen, and even leather), carpet, paper, photographs, book glue, and dry goods such as boxes of cereal, sugar and coffee.
Signs of Infestation: Holes and yellowish stains.
Cockroaches
Appearance: Flat, oval-shaped bodies that can measure over two inches long, six legs, antennas longer than their bodies, and wings flattened against their backs.
Habitat: Warm environments that offer easy access to food, water, and nesting sites. Often found where food and garbage is stored, such as kitchens.
Diet: Prefer sweets, meats, and starches but will eat any natural food source available, including paper, cloth, hair, and decaying matter.
Signs of Infestation: Feces that resemble coffee grinds or black pepper, oval-shaped egg cases, dead bodies, and depending on the species, a strong oily or musty odor.
More About Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar
Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar, also known as Juniperus Virginiana, is one of 13 Juniper species native to the United States. Eastern Red Cedar is found primarily in North America (covering southeastern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico and east of the Great Plains), most prevalent in the eastern and central parts of the U. S., predominantly in four states.
According to the U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Industry Analysis, 53% of all Eastern Red Cedar trees are found in Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri. Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar is a small conical-shaped evergreen. Its wood is fragrant, reddish-brown, easily worked, and very durable. The Eastern Red Cedar thrives in limestone-based soils and grows naturally in the wild.
The Eastern Red Cedar tree has several properties that distinguish it from other trees referred to as cedar. The scent of the naturally occurring oil in the wood not only blends well with floral fragrances for perfumes, but the aroma and beauty of the wood also lends themselves to many practical applications within homes.
The primary use of Aromatic Eastern Red Cedar is for lining closets and enclosed areas to protect clothes, linens, and other valuables from damage due to moths, cockroaches, silverfish, and mildew.
